AFRICA EXPEDITIONS SUDAN LTD (AFEX) Nairobi, Kenya
Security Manager July 2007 to Present

  • Worked as Relief Chief of Security for this logistics support, security, and catering firm where I managed a 220 Man Private Guard Force of Sudanese indigenous personnel in Juba, South Sudan. Our guard force protected 23 sites in Juba to include UN Mine Action Group, US Consulate and new US Embassy Construction Site, plus a variety of sites for NGO’s and commercial firms.
  • Managed day-to-day security operations and facilitated liaison with local police, government, and Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) Officials to coordinate security and safety issues for above sites.
  • Recruited new security clients and helped improve public relations with current catering, security and hotel camp clients (Bering Point, Louis Berger, US Embassy, UNICEF, etc.)
  • Developed/improved administrative systems for personnel, logistics support, and inventory control.

Financial Administrative Officer (FAO) October 2003 to December 2006

  • Helped develop, manage and implement $12 million malaria control project in Equatorial Guinea, W. Africa.
  • Managed budgeting, forecasting, accounting and implementation of all services required to support field office operations. Modified and maintained financial reporting systems for all field expenditures.

  • Recruited, trained, and supervised local administration staff.   • Provided on-site project support to assess the security of two major off shore gas wells for major oil company in Colombia, S. America. Part of project involved developing a maritime security force for these wells. Assisted with interviews and selection of indigenous personnel for project. Initiated and taught Basic English Instruction program for command center staff.. Researched logistics for supporting maritime forces and initiated negotiations with local suppliers. Facilitated liaison with local oil company management, staff and domestic and international security consultants who visited project site. Conducted research to develop local civic action/public relations programs for indigenous people in site area and identified low cost badly needed infrastructure projects for nearby residents.
  • Identified key original equipment manufacturer of unique high tech ultra light weight armor material used in aircraft & ballistic vests and recruited firm as client for Milo. Conducted in-country market investigative research in Colombia, S.A for this client, uncovered fraudulent claims made to client by potential joint-venture armoring partner. Prevented substantial financial losses and potential damage to client’s reputation. Also identified major ballistic vest end user requirements and decision makers.

Sales and Marketing /Management Consultant 1976 to 2001

  • Provided management and technical assistance in the coordination of national and international enterprises.
  • UAE, Kuwait & Arabian Gulf States–developed export markets for U.S. manufacturing companies, including: agent networks, direct sales campaigns and budgets–Increased annual sales from $500,000 to $3 million for one export firm. Saudi Arabia–conducted in-country market research, analyzed results, formulated business-marketing plan for shopping center in Jeddah. Mexico–improved existing international sales program for armored vehicles and developed additional markets in China, Philippines and Soviet Union increasing annual sales by 20 percent for this custom vehicle manufacturer; created brochures, trade show and ad programs.
  • USA Projects: Participated in early development of a successful international defense review magazine.
    Secured ad contracts with key defense suppliers, i.e., Fairchild Industries, Inc. for premier issue.
    Circulation eventually increased from 5,000 to 18,000 with 70 major defense advertisers.
